I’ve never trained for anything in my life. Even longer cycling events, in which I have been known to participate, I not so much prepared for as much as just “rode a little farther” on that day. So, the decision to prepare for an event like the (half) Silverman is a big one. Half Silverman — it sounds like a wrestling hold, something to struggle out of before losing consciousness. Challenging, yes, but unlike being body slammed by Hulk Hogan, rewarding as well.
I’m kinda sort of half-committed to this thing right now. I’m willing, even excited, to try running farther than I ever have and swimming more than the distance across the pool to the floating tiki lounge. Where this lands me this time next year — at the starting line or the buffet line — is still in flux. I’m sure there are others out there on the fence, as well. What are your reasons and motivations for choosing to participate in the SIlverman (or not)?

You’re absolutely right! The Silverman does have a sort of wrestling hold…on the imagination and on the spirit. I think that’s why the it has such an allure. Do it because you can!
